5 Tips for Running on Business Travel or Running on Vacation

Number 1 of our travel tips for running is to let someone know when and where you are lacing up your shoes. 

We recommend using the Life 360 app. If you don’t wish to use the Life 360 app, be sure to tell a friend or loved one where you are headed and when you will be returning from your run. 

If you wear a running belt, slip a piece of paper with your name and number in it. We recommend carrying your cell phone and a small amount of cash in case of emergency.

Stay in well lit, populated areas when running and traveling in new places.

Tip #2 for Running on Vacation or Running on Business Trips:

Be accountable when wanting to run while traveling. 

Finding a way to consistently run while traveling can be a challenge. If possible, get an accountability partner. Check a local running store to see if they have a running group that meets at a time and location that fits in your schedule. 

Can’t make that but still want to keep running while you travel and need motivation? Tell a friend or family member you will call them from the run. Pop in your airpods or earbuds and now you have to get out there!

Tip #3 for Running While Traveling For Business or Running While on Vacation With Family:

Wake up early if you want to run when traveling! 

“Should I run on vacation” is a common question from runners, especially when on vacation with their family. Obviously you want to emphasize family, quality time, so you may need to rise and shine extra early to get that run in. Listen to real stories about runners getting their workouts done while traveling with their families.

Pack simply for a workout while traveling. Exercise bands, running shoes and clothes, and a watch are all that you need.

Tip #5 for Running When Working and Traveling

Complete a Simple Business Travel Workout (Hotel Room Workout or Parking Lot Workout)!

If you don’t want to head to the gym, but want to get some core exercises or simple movements done in your hotel room (or post-run in a parking lot workout), here are a few easy moves that don’t require any weight.

  • Burpees
  • High Knees Standing
  • Single leg hops
  • Squats
  • Walking Lunges
  • Push ups (regular or from knees)
  • Planks (forward, side)

Don’t forget you don’t need to do an entire strength workout all at once when traveling. Aim for 10 minutes in the morning, add 10 extra minutes when you have a break, and add another 10 minutes in the evening before your business dinner.
