Mistakes That Keep Us From Running at 40 Plus...

Do you ever feel like you aren’t a “real runner” anymore (or never will be)? Do any of these sound like you?

  • You get discouraged by slower times so just want to give up running
  • Instead of eating to run, you run to eat
  • Injury after injury prevent you from training 
  • Because you are too busy with work or family obligations, you find yourself giving up running time
  • You are too busy or overwhelmed to do strength and injury prevention
  • You tend to skip sleep to run, go running when tired, and then feel terrible the next afternoon
  • You keep thinking, why is running so hard (especially if you are wondering how to start running when out of shape or you are managing menopause)….

We are here to tell you these are normal feelings.

Stop using age as an excuse and start using it as motivation. 

You CAN start running or get back to lifelong running if you do the little things that are actually the big things.

Why do runners quit after age 40+?

So many previous runners that I know have asked me about maintaining or starting back at running in their 40s and beyond. I’ve seen so many of us really competitive people make the mistake of getting discouraged over slower times and achy joints and ultimately just quit.

Then, we lose all the emotional and physical benefits of running (and the fun and community that comes with participating in races).

And that’s just backwards because while aging may slow our running down, running can slow our aging down!

Mindset shift! That’s what Running With Grit is all about. Let’s get going and equip each other with the right running resources and new challenges for our body and mind.
